Rumi and the Manuscripts

First of all, I thought I’d start off today by sharing a link to some manuscript illuminations depicting the life of Jalal ad-Din Rumi, the mystical Islamic poet who featured in the Dinner-Table Dream-Team just a few days ago. These images are wonderful examples of Persianate miniature painting, and are chock-full of endearing detail. Just for fun, see if you can’t find a crescent moon, a pair of camels, a turtle, a teapot, a candle, and a salt-storm!

And, if those images haven’t satisfied you, click through to the entire online exhibition, including images from many more manuscripts from across the Islamic world courtesy of the Morgan Library and Museum (a great way to zoom in if you haven’t yet completed your treasure-hunt!)
